Weathers storm to win contract
Chovancek defeated Raphael Uchegbu via KO/TKO (Punches) at 0:10 of Round 3 at Dana White's Contender Series on Tuesday. After the show, he was one of four fighters to be officially awarded a UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Chovancek was swimming upstream to start this one, as Uchegbu came out using his length to land hard shots. The Canadian fighter was able to turn the tables on the ground, as a hard elbow and some good scrambling led to him ending Round 1 in dominant position. Chovancek built momentum throughout the fight before a powerful overhand right closed the show in the opening seconds of the third frame. The trouble Chovancek showed with range early may be a cause for concern, but his ability to excel in all phases makes him an intriguing addition to the bantamweight division.
