Picks up majority decision victory over legend BJ Penn
FeatherweightOther
June 25, 2017
Siver defeated BJ Penn by majority decision (28-28, 29-28, 29-27) at UFC Fight Night 112 on Sunday in Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Siver used a high volume of strikes to keep Penn at bay for the majority of the fight. He threw many different types of kicks and that did not allow Penn to get off significant offense. The German featherweight was in trouble in the second round when he got knocked down, but he was able to recover and dominate the third round. He was very close to finishing Penn in the third round. Siver looked very good and active after a layoff of more than two years.
Booked against BJ Penn
FeatherweightOther
March 23, 2017
Siver will take on BJ Penn in a featherweight matchup at a UFC Fight Night event on June 25 in Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Siver was originally scheduled to face Penn all the way back at UFC 199 last June, but withdrew due to injury and has been quiet since. Over that time, Penn had two other fights fall through, and when he finally stepped into the Octagon against Yair Rodriguez, he was dismantled in swift fashion. At 38 years old, Siver will represent a much more reasonable opponent for Penn. He hasn't fought since June 2015, however, so will be out of competition for roughly two years when he steps in the octagon this summer. Siver also has just one win since 2012. it could very well be the last fight for both men.
No longer scheduled for UFC 199
FeatherweightOther
May 11, 2016
Siver will no longer face BJ Penn at UFC 199 on June 4 in Los Angeles, as he had to withdraw from the bout due to an undisclosed injury, FOX Sports UFC reports.
ANALYSIS
This fight had been intriguing due to the veteran names involved, but neither fighter should have realistic expectations of rising through the featherweight rankings any time soon. The 37-year-old Siver had been hoping to catch an MMA legend on nearly a two-year layoff, but alas, it will not come to pass. After back-to-back losses for Siver, he may be nearly as close as Penn to potentially hanging up the gloves.
FeatherweightOther
April 13, 2016
Siver will face UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn in his return to the octagon at UFC 199 on June 4, Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Siver has now dropped back-to-back fights, but will get a chance for redemption against a fellow 37-year-old. Penn is a well-decorated veteran who has recently returned to training at JacksonWink MMA, but he hasn't recorded a victory in the octagon since 2010. Match up these two fighters in their primes and Penn would be the heavy favorite, but he'll have to shake off the rust if he has aspirations of handing Siver his third straight defeat.
Dennis Siver: Drops Unanimous Decision In Berlin Saturday
FeatherweightOther
June 20, 2015
Siver lost to Tatsuya Kawajiri by unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Berlin.
ANALYSIS
Siver needed a bounce back performance after his mauling at the hands of Conor McGregor and he didn't get it. He won the total strike battle by a count of 90-47, but he spent extended periods of time on his back in rounds 2 and 3 and it ended up costing him the decision. The fact Siver was fighting in his home country and couldn't handle a weaker opponent than he's faced in his last several bouts is concerning. He's now 36 years old and his career is definitely on the decline.
