BantamweightUFC
June 27, 2018
Arantes announced Tuesday on his personal Instagram account that he has retired from mixed martial arts.
ANALYSIS
The decision comes after the bantamweight was handed the first knockout loss of his 31-fight career when Song Yagong defeated him at UFC Singapore on Saturday. The 30-year-old Arantes will hang up his gloves with a 18-10-1 career record, which includes a 5-6-1 mark in the Octagon.

Struggles to get going against Song Yadong
BantamweightUFC
June 23, 2018
Arantes lost to Yadong Song via TKO (punches) at 4:59 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night in Singapore
ANALYSIS
Arantes really struggles in this fight. Song was able to dominate on the feet and on the ground. Arantes ate a lot of strikes at distance and then ended up on the bottom. He survived, but he nearly submitted to an arm-triangle choke and ate more strikes. Towards the end of the second round, Song landed an elbow that dropped Arantes and finished the fight.
Loses lopsided decision in Poland
BantamweightUFC
October 21, 2017
Arantes lost to Josh Emmett via unanimous decision (26-30, 26-30, 25-30) at UFC Fight Night 118 on Saturday in Poland.
ANALYSIS
Arantes was sent to the canvas four times from strikes in Round 1, but the shots didn't appear to be all that clean, making it difficult to tell if the BJJ brown belt was flopping in order to play guard. The 29-year-old used his jab and a step-in knee to try to curtail the forward pressure of his opponent in the second round, but it wasn't enough as Emmett walked away with the easy decision victory. Arantes hasn't been as active as he may like to be as a result of ailments and now finds himself having lost his last two fights. He currently holds an 18-9-1, 2NC record in professional MMA.
Comes up short in close fight against Erik Perez
BantamweightUFC
November 5, 2016
Arantes lost to Erik Perez via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
It was the rare fight in which either man could have gotten the judge's call and it wouldn't have been the wrong decision. Arantes looked hesitant in Round 2, but he fought just fine in Rounds 1 and 3. Arantes entered the fight as a considerable underdog at +200, but he was able to hang with Perez for nearly the entirety of the 15-minute bout. Arantes is just 28-years-old, but he has been with the company for nearly five and a half years. He now has a 5-4-1 record over his first 10 fights with the UFC.
Draws Erik Perez in November
BantamweightUFC
September 13, 2016
Arantes will face Erik Perez at UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico City, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This will be a quality matchup between two young bantamweights looking to earn a ranked spot in the division. Arantes has rattled off two straight victories in the UFC, both of which arrived via submission (armbar). He'll face a younger fighter in the 26-year-old Perez, who has only been submitted twice in his career (most recently to Bryan Caraway in June of 2014).
Gets second straight submission victory
BantamweightUFC
July 7, 2016
Arantes picked up the victory over Jerrod Sanders via submission (armbar) at 1:39 of round two at UFC Fight 90 on Thursday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was the second straight submission victory for Arantes, as he picked up a win over Yves Jaboin last August when he was able to secure an armbar as well. The 28-year-old Brazilian appears to have earned the right to face a higher-caliber opponent, and whoever the UFC choose will have to carefully refine their submission defense during that fight camp.
