Agrees to fight on short notice
Brooks will fight Roberto Sanchez at UFC 228 on Sept. 8, Alexander K. Lee of MMAfighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was originally expected to fight Ryan Benoit, but Benoit was a late withdrawal with an undisclosed injury. That allows Brooks to step in and take the fight, though he could be at a disadvantage considering the late notice. After starting his time under the UFC banner strong with a victory over Eric Shelton, Brooks has dropped back-to-back fights and is in desperate need of a bounce-back effort. That won't be easy, however, as he'll be matched up with Sanchez, who owns a three inch height advantage and a four-inch reach advantage.

Loses to Jose Torres following ill-advised slam attempt
Brooks lost to Jose Torres via TKO (slam and punches) at 2:55 of Round 2 at UFC Utica on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Brooks was the primary aggressor in Round 1, as he landed a spinning backfist early in the round that dropped Torres. He proceeded to land ground-and-pound before letting Torres back up, but then recorded a takedown and had the back of Torres at the end of the period. In Round 2, Brooks continued to work the jab and spinning attacks, which Torres began to wear on his left eye prior to the middle of the frame. Then, in the blink of an eye, it all fell apart. Brooks had Torres high in the air while going for a takedown, but attempted an ill-advised slam that appeared to do more damage to himself than his opponent (he may have even knocked himself out). Torres ended up on top, and finished Brooks with more ground-and-pound. Brooks has now lost back-to-back fights, but at 25 years old, there's plenty of room for "The Monkey God" to continue improving.

Opponent change for Utica
Brooks will now face Jose Torres at UFC Utica on June 1, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brooks was originally scheduled to take on Hector Sandoval, but Sandoval was forced to withdraw due to undisclosed reasons. That will open the door for Torres, who is the reigning Titan FC flyweight and bantamweight champion. Brooks is coming off a loss to Deiveson Figueiredo, and even though he's going up against a debuting opponent, "The Monkey God" opened as a (+185) betting underdog.

Put on Utica card
Brooks will take on Hector Sandoval in a flyweight matchup at UFC Utica on June 1, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brooks has had two fights in the UFC (1-1) after entering the promotion undefeated, with both aforementioned matchups ending in split decisions. On the other side of the cage, Sandoval is known to come out swinging, even if it is to his detriment at times. There's a lot more tape out there on the more experienced Sandoval, but he's still beatable, having been finished four times in his professional career.

Suffers first pro loss Saturday in Brazil
Brooks lost to Deiveson Figueiredo via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
It's a disappointing loss from Brooks in which his overall numbers looked pretty good. Brooks landed seven takedowns although he didn't do a ton with his positional advantages. His strongest round was the first before slowly allowing Figueiredo back into the fight. Going to the scorecards in Brazil against a native fighter is always a risky move and Brooks paid the price on Saturday. It was the first lost of his professional career.
