Javid Basharat
The Snow Leopard

Afghanistan
Takes decision from heavy opponent
Basharat defeated Gianni Vazquez via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Originally scheduled to face Said Nurmagomedov here, Basharat agreed to this opponent change about two days ago. To make matters worse, Vazquez missed weight by five pounds. Taking all that into consideration, it was a solid, if unspectacular performance from Basharat. He was responsible for the biggest moment of the fight with a Round 1 knockdown. Javid was also able to regain the momentum in Round 3 with his grappling after a lousy second frame. Basharat doesn't seem to process things inside the Octagon as quickly or efficiently as his young brother Farid, who fights later in the evening against Jean Matsumoto, but with a 4-2 (1NC) mark in seven UFC bouts, his roster spot is equally secure.

Catchweight fight scheduled
Basharat is scheduled to compete against Gianni Vazquez in a catchweight fight at UFC Vegas 113 on Saturday, MMA Junkie reports.
ANALYSIS
Vazquez missed the UFC's bantamweight limit by five pounds, but presumably for taking a fight on short notice, Basharat has accepted catchweight conditions for their bout. The latter will look to get back on track following a 2025 knockout at the hands of Ricky Simon.

Late opponent switch
Basharat will now face newcomer Gianni Vazquez at UFC Vegas 113 on Saturday, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Basharat was initially supposed to fight Said Nurmagomedov and even would have been a slight betting favorite in that matchup, but Nurmagomedov was forced to withdraw from the card Thursday morning for undisclosed reasons. In steps Vazquez, a regional fighter moving up a weight class who will be making his UFC debut at the age of 31. Look for Basharat to be an even bigger betting favorite once the odds are released.

Taking on Nurmagomedov in Vegas
Basharat will face Said Nurmagomedov at a UFC event in Las Vegas on February 7, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Basharat will head into the fight looking to end a three-bout winless streak dating back to 2023 in UFC play. The 30-year-old Afghan holds a slight advantage in height but will surrender a slight disadvantage in reach compared to the older Russian fighter. With a combined 12-0 professional record in submission finishes between the two fighters, expect the ground game to be the difference maker in this one.

Struggles continue in Seattle
Basharat lost to Ricky Simon via KO (punch) at 3:58 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Coming off the first loss of his pro career against Aiemann Zahabi last March, Basharat came out here and flopped as a -260 favorite. He was actually getting the better of the stand-up action prior to the stoppage, but one Simon right hand landed flush and knocked Javid out cold before he hit the mat. It was one of the most vicious knockouts you will ever see. Winless in his last three fights (0-2, 1NC) and without a victory in more than two years, Basharat is about out of time in a deep bantamweight division.

Looks to bounce back against Simon
Basharat will take on Ricky Simon in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Seattle on Feb. 22, Alex Behunin of MMA Mania reports.
ANALYSIS
Basharat is without a UFC victory since January of 2023, as he had a tough break in a no-contest against Victory Henry two Octobers ago before losing to Aiemann Zahabi last March and getting his next 2024 fight cancelled. He now looks to get back on the winning path against Simon, a tough fighter with a respectable resume, but also one who happens to have lost three in a row under the UFC banner.
