Joey Beltran

Mexicutioner
Gets TKO'd by Alessio Sakara in Italy
Light HeavyweightBellator
December 10, 2016
Beltran lost to Alessio Sakara via TKO (punches) at 1:20 of Round 1 at Bellator 168 on Saturday in Florence, Italy.
ANALYSIS
Both men came out hunting, but Beltran seemed to have trouble finding his range as Sakara continually backed him up. The Italian fighter clipped Beltran with a shot on the side of the head before guiding him to the ground and pounding him out. Beltran came into this fight hoping to build momentum after taking a split-decision loss to Chase Gormley in May, but was simply overwhelmed by the more powerful fighter. Beltran's professional MMA record drops to 17-14 as a result of the loss. He has been defeated in four of his last six fights.

Light HeavyweightBellator

Beltran will enter his middleweight bout with Kendall Grove as a +120 underdog at Bellator 143 on Friday in Hidalgo, Texas.
ANALYSIS
Beltran should be lauded for successfully dropping two weight classes, as "The Mexicutioner" competed as a heavyweight in the UFC just two years ago. Toughness is Beltran's best asset, as a solid chin and excellent boxing have guided the veteran to 11 wins by KO/TKO. Facing a significant reach disadvantage, Beltran would be well served to strike from the outside and keep the fight standing.
