Joey Gomez

KO King
Release possible after unanimous decision loss to Jose Quinonez

September 17, 2016
Gomez lost to Jose Quinonez via unanimous decision (28-29, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Hidalgo, Texas.
ANALYSIS
If you label yourself the "KO King", you may want to mix in a win here and there. Gomez's best frame on Saturday was easily the second, but even that was nothing to write home about. He tends to be very aggressive on the feet, but that often leads to sloppy attempts in the striking game and Gomez getting countered with his opponent's jab. Now 0-2 in the UFC, Gomez probably deserves to be released.

Gomez was defeated by Rob Font via TKO (punches) at 4:13 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night 81 on Sunday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Hats off to Gomez for taking this fight on two week's notice, but the lack of a camp was clear in this one. He did manage to record one takedown in the contest, but was taken down several times by Font and ate several large strikes. It all culminated with a hard left hand in Round 2 that Gomez was simply unable to recover from, resulting in the first professional loss of his career.
