Appelt could not stop the takedown from Lashley. He did a good job fighting back whenever the referee called for it in the first round. That probably prevented the stoppage since it seemed like the official wanted to stop it. He knew he had a chance at the beginning of round two with Lashley getting tired. However, he could not land the big punch and ended up on the bottom. From there, it was only a matter of time before the submission.
