Josh Burkman

Finished in first round in Austin
WelterweightUFC
February 18, 2018
Burkman was defeated by Alex Morono via submission (guillotine) at 2:12 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Sunday in Austin.
ANALYSIS
Burkman started the fight at a slow pace and searched for his shot. He may have been too patient as he absorbed heavy leg kicks which forced him to switch his stance. Shortly after switching his stance, "The People's Warrior" was caught with a punch, and Morono quickly grabbed his neck and sunk in a guillotine for the finish.

Adds fight against Alex Morono
WelterweightUFC
February 7, 2018
Burkman will face Alex Morono at UFC Austin on Feb. 18, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Burkman heads into this event riding a four-fight losing streak which includes a defeat at the hands of Drew Dober via KO during his last time out in July. That bout came on the heels of an "announced retirement" following a loss to Michel Prazeres in March, which clearly didn't stick as he's set to compete in 46th professional bout when he takes on Morono in a welterweight showdown. Morono has lost his past two fights, dropping a split decision to Keita Nakamura in September after losing to Niko Price last February.
Release a certainty after fourth straight loss
WelterweightUFC
July 29, 2017
Burkman lost to Drew Dober via KO (punch) at 3:04 of Round 1 at UFC 214 on Saturday in Anaheim.
ANALYSIS
Burkman appeared to retire after his last fight in March when he left his gloves in the cage following a loss to Michel Prazeres, but he was back for more on Saturday. It was clearly the wrong decision. At age 37, Burkman has nothing left in the tank. He has lost four fights in a row and he is 1-6 dating back to May 2015. If Burkman doesn't willingly step aside, the UFC is going to flat out release him. There is zero reason to keep him around.
Announces retirement following Saturday's loss to Michel Prazeres
WelterweightUFC
March 11, 2017
Burkman retired on Saturday following his loss to Michel Prazeres via submission (north-south choke) at 1:42 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Fortaleza, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
It's the right decision. Oddly enough, FOX Sports' analyst Brian Stann was the one who made the announcement that Burkman left his gloves in the cage since he wasn't given an interview following the defeat. He was overwhelmed by Prazeres just seconds after the opening bell rang. Burkman is a good guy and one of the toughest men in the world, but he was never a UFC-caliber fighter. Over his two separate runs with the company, Burkman compiled a 6-10 (1NC) career record.
Draws Michel Prazeres in Brazil
WelterweightUFC
December 29, 2016
Burkman will face Michel Prazeres in a lightweight matchup in Brazil on March 11, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Burkman is in a must-win situation after losing four out of his last five, and could be looking at his release with another defeat. He has a bit of a length advantage over Prazeres, but Prazeres is a younger fighter with more momentum (three straight wins), and will be fighting in front of his home Brazilian crowd.
Drops second-straight fight
WelterweightUFC
October 1, 2016
Burkman lost to Zak Ottow via split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Portland, Ore.
ANALYSIS
Since returning to the UFC in 2015, Burkman has now gone 1-4. His only win during the span came over K.J. Noons in February. He was a large favorite here over Zak Ottow, who came into the fight on late notice. Burkman could not consistently land takedowns or strikes over the course of the fight. Ottow pushed the pace with straight punches and that threw Burkman off his game. It would not be shocking if Burkman ended up outside the UFC after this one.
