Josh Sampo

The Gremlin
Comes up short in comeback fight at Bellator 197
FlyweightBellator
April 13, 2018
Sampo lost to Dominic Mazzotta via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at Bellator 197 on Friday in St. Charles, Mo.
ANALYSIS
Sampo went 1-3 in the UFC between 2013 and 2015. He then took an extended hiatus and made his return here. He showed off some of his scrambling skill that got him to the UFC, but he was not able to avoid the takedowns of Mazzotta. He spent long periods of this feet on the bottom eating shots, and that is not a recipe for success. His best weight is probably flyweight, but there are bantamweight fights he can win in Bellator. On the other hand, he came into this fight on a one-fight contract.

Josh Sampo: Sent Packing By UFC Tuesday
FlyweightBellator
July 7, 2015
Sampo was cut from the UFC roster on Tuesday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The flyweight division is very thin, but the UFC brass apparently couldn't overlook Sampo's three-fight losing streak. His last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Justin Scoggins in May. Expect him to resurface in another promotion.
Josh Sampo: Loses Unanimous Decision To Justin Scoggins At UFC 187
FlyweightBellator
May 23, 2015
Sampo lost to Justin Scoggins via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 187 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Sampo had a couple good minutes late in round 2 but that was about it. He ate a ton of leg kicks, including a couple huge ones to the head. Sampo landed just one takedown, which isn't good enough for a guy who relies on his wrestling. Sampo has now lost three in a row but the flyweight division is so thin at the moment, it seems likely that he will get another bout in the UFC.
