Suffers first UFC defeat
BantamweightUFC
March 16, 2024
Nunes lost to Chelsea Chandler via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This fight was close, but Nunes really struggled with the physicality of Chandler throughout the course of the bout. The fact the latter missed weight by a pound Friday morning may have very well contributed to that. The Brazilian spent far too much of the first ten minutes being controlled by Chandler, limiting her ability to generate offense. All three judges gave Nunes Round 3, but the damage was already done. The lone positive news for Nunes is that she will walk away with 20 percent of her opponent's purse. It's Josiane's first loss in four UFC bouts, although it's worth noting the company has been extremely conservative regarding the quality of competition they have matched her up against thus far.

Finally scheduled for fight
BantamweightUFC
January 23, 2024
Nunes is scheduled to compete in a bantamweight fight against Chelsea Chandler at the UFC's Vegas event on March 16, per Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
This will be Nunes' first fight scheduled since UFC 283, when the 30-year-old bantamweight defeated Zarah Fairn. More than a year has passed since then, with the Brazilian's next opponent having suffered her first UFC loss. Nunes will look to deliver Chandler's second defeat in March.
Survives as massive favorite
BantamweightUFC
January 21, 2023
Nunes defeated Zarah Fairn via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 283 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Nunes walked away with the victory she came for, but it was a truly underwhelming effort in one of the least-technical fights you will ever see. Giving up a whopping seven inches in height to her opponent, Nunes struggled to get inside and land with consistency. She spent the entire fight firing off reckless combinations, some of which landed due to Fairn's poor striking defense. Nunes certainly didn't look the part of a -550 favorite. The Brazilian's future isn't as bright as her perfect 3-0 mark with the UFC would lead you to believe.
UFC 283 fight in the works
BantamweightUFC
September 26, 2022
Nunes is expected to take on Zarah Fairn at UFC 283 on Jan. 21, MMA Fighting reports.
ANALYSIS
This fight was originally booked for April 2021, but it was removed after Fairn missed weight by eight pounds. Nunes comes in riding high on an eight-fight win streak with the most recent coming in February against Romona Pascual.
Remains perfect in UFC
BantamweightUFC
February 26, 2022
Nunes defeated Ramona Pascual via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a dominant performance from Nunes against a late-notice opponent in a fight she was supposed to win, but the Brazilian's uber-aggressive style of fighting figures to become a problem sooner rather than late. Nunes has legitimate power in her hands, but she is the type of fighter who is willing to eat a strike in order to land two of her own, and that almost never ends well. She was able to cruise past Pascual based on raw talent alone, yet that won't be the case moving forward. Nunes needs to learn how to pick her spots better, something that won't be easy considering she is short for the division at 5-foot-3. In the here and now, Nunes has racked up back-to-back wins to begin her UFC run.
Now facing Ramona Pascual
BantamweightUFC
February 18, 2022
Nunes will take on Ramona Pascual in Las Vegas on Feb. 26, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Nunes was originally supposed to fight Wu Yanan on that date and was later matched against Jennifer Gonzalez after Yanan withdrew. Her ability to remain on the card appeared to be in doubt after Gonzalez was released by the UFC on Thursday, but a new opponent has been found on very short notice. Nunes and Pascal have very little UFC experience between them, as Nunes won her lone fight with the promotion against Bea Malecki in August, while Pascual will be fighting under the UFC banner for the first time.
