Draws newcomer in Boise
Scoggins (spine) will face the debuting Said Nurmagomedov in flyweight matchup at UFC Boise on July 14, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Scoggins will step into the octagon in July for his first fight in over a full calendar year. He had been scheduled to face Tim Elliot in September, but suffered a spinal process fracture that led to over six months on the shelf. Now presumably healthy, he'll draw a 26-year-old newcomer from the MMA hotbed of Dagestan. Scoggins will need a convincing victory to get back on track following two consecutive losses, and even though Nurmagomedov is a newcomer, there are multiple established UFC fighters that have previously fought under the Absolute Championship Berkut banner. It's a risky fight for Scoggins, who needs a win to get back into the 125-pound rankings.

Out with spinal injury

ANALYSIS

To fight Tim Elliot at UFC on FOX 26
Scoggins will face off against Tim Elliot at UFC on FOX 26 on Dec. 16, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Scoggins has struggled since defeating upcoming title challenger Ray Borg in Feb. of 2016. Since then, he suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw, failed to make weight, and then lost two consecutive fights. Elliot, since losing in five rounds to Demetrious Johnson during a title fight, is 1-1.

Stunned by Ulka Sasaki Saturday in Singapore
Scoggins lost to Ulka Sasaki via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:19 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Kallang, Singapore.
ANALYSIS
It was a crushing, sudden loss that has Scoggins questioning what is next for him. He easily won Round 1 and was dominating Round 2 before he got sloppy. Scoggins allowed Sasaki to take his back and clamp in the RNC that ended the fight. Viewed as one of the brighter prospects in the flyweight division not all that long ago, the 25-year-old Scoggins is now 2-4 in his last six fights. His future remains murky, at best.

Falls to Pedro Munhoz in bantamweight debut
Scoggins lost to Pedro Munhoz via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:55 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
After being forced to withdraw from a July flyweight fight with Ian McCall after suffering issues during his weight cut, Scoggins moved up to bantamweight for Saturday's contest. His 135-pound debut started off well. Scoggins landed multiple combinations in Round 1 and appeared to be the far quicker of the two men. In Round 2 he slipped as he attempted to throw and kick and Munhoz quickly clamped on the guillotine that ended the fight. The 25-year-old Scoggins was a very intriguing prospect when he was fighting at flyweight, but he is far less interesting at bantamweight.
