Falls victim to an upset against debuting fighter
FlyweightBellator
December 9, 2017
Ovchynnikova lost to Alejandra Lara via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:09 of Round 3 at Bellator 190 on Saturday in Florence, Italy.
ANALYSIS
Bellator has been trying to push Ovchynnikova since she joined the promotion in 2016. Things got off to a rough start after she lost in her promotional debut against Rebecca Ruth. However, since that loss, her career seemed to have settled down and she defeated Karla Benitez and Helen Harper to put herself in position to be a contender in the flyweight division. However, all that momentum is gone with this loss. She came into this fight as a -1000 favorite and ended up losing via third-round submission. Ovchynnikova will need to go back to the drawing board and rebuild her status in Bellator one again.

Scores first knockout at Bellator 177
FlyweightBellator
April 14, 2017
Ovchynnikova defeated Helen Harper via TKO (punches) at 5:00 of Round 2 at Bellator 177 on Friday in Budapest.
ANALYSIS
Ovchynnikova needed to survive some serious adversity in the first round before coming back to win. Harper scored an early takedown and moved to mount. The British fighter then attempted an Americana, armbar and triangle choke. However, Ovchynnikova was able to power out all of the attempts and stay in the fight. The takedowns got harder for Harper in the second round. At striking range, Ovchynnikova had the advantage. Her southpaw strike gave Harper a lot of trouble and bloodied her face. The Ukrainian also landed several harsh knees. The damage was enough to prevent Harper from coming out for Round 3. Ovchynnikova has been a favorite in all three of her Bellator fights, but this was the first time she really looked overly impressive and finished the fight. After the fight, she said that everyone wants to see her face Anastasia Yankova.

Ovchynnikova defeated Karla Benitez via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at Bellator 164 on Thursday in Tel Aviv, Israel
ANALYSIS
Scott Coker and Bellator have been looking for their first major female star. Prior to her Bellator debut, it looked like Ovchynnikova had a shot to fill that role. For her debut, the promotion matched her against part-time fighter Rebecca Ruth. However, the kickboxer could never get on track and ended up giving up the upset. In her return fight, "The Hunter" was once again a big favorite, but this time she got the job done. Benitez did not really pressure Ovchynnikova. That allowed the Ukrainian fighter to get loose and really flex some of her kickboxing skill. This was not an overly exciting fight, but Ovchynnikova was clearly the better striker over the course of the three-round fight.
