Coenen will face Alexis Dufresne at Bellator 155 instead of Julia Budd, who was forced out of the fight due to an undisclosed injury, Dave Doyle of SB Nation reports.
ANALYSIS
Coenen was originally scheduled for a Bellator featherweight title bout, but will now compete against Dufresne in a three-round, non-title fight due to Budd's injury. Coenen is a submission specialist, winning 17 of her 23 career wins by submission. Dusfresne has five wins and two losses to date, with all five of her wins coming in the first round of the fight. Coenen has the experience to win the fight, but will have to watch out for Dufresne's first round dominance.
Marloes Coenen: Easily Earns Submission Win At Bellator 141
FeatherweightBellator
August 28, 2015
Coenen defeated Arlene Blencowe via submission (armbar) at 3:23 of Round 2 at Bellator 141 on Friday in Temecula, California.
ANALYSIS
It's hard to tell exactly what Bellator hoping to accomplish with Coenen. She wasn't even scheduled to be on the main card until an injury forced them to reshuffle the order of the bouts. The former Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion is one of the better featherweights in the world, but there is no competition for her in Bellator. It doesn't make much sense for any notable female fighter to be fighting outside of the UFC or Invicta these days.
