Again gets best of Shogun Rua
Light HeavyweightUFC
May 7, 2022
Saint Preux defeated Mauricio Rua via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC 274 on Saturday in Phoenix.
This was the second fight between these two, and it's safe to say there won't be a third. OSP may have gotten the victory he came to Phoenix for, but his stock cratered in the process. Saint Preux fired a couple of effective body kicks in the early going, but that was about it. Thankfully for him, Rua accomplished even less. The fact OSP wasn't able to significantly damage a soon-to-be 41-year-old opponent who uses zero footwork defensively is highly, highly concerning. Saint Preux is a plus-athlete with some power and elite size for the light heavyweight division, but he turned 39 years of age this past April, and it's impossible to believe OSP's best days are ahead of him. On a positive note, this victory snapped a two-fight losing streak for Saint Preux and could have conceivably saved his job.

Saint Preux will fight Mauricio Rua in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 274 on May 7, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
Saint Preux withdrew from his last expected fight in November and he last fought in June, losing to Tanner Boser via KO (knee and punches) in Round 2. He owns a 16-12 record in UFC and is currently on a two-fight skid. His opponent Rua is also coming off a loss in his last fight, falling to Paul Craig via TKO (punches) in November 2020.

Saint Preux won't face Philipe Lins in a light heavyweight bout previously scheduled for Nov. 13, according to MMAJunkie.com.
The reasons for Saint Preux's withdrawal are unknown yet, but it has been confirmed that he won't be taking part in the event scheduled for next Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Saint Preux was looking to snap a two-fight skid, with both losses coming via TKO, and now it remains to be seen when he'll be back in the octagon. He owns a 15-12 record in UFC.
