Russell Doane

Gets back to losing ways Saturday against Rani Yahya
BantamweightUFC
February 24, 2018
Doane lost to Rani Yahya via submission (Triangle Choke) at 2:32 of Round 3 at UFC on FOX 28 on Saturday in Orlando.
ANALYSIS
To say that Doane had no answer for the world-class grappling game of Yahya would be the understatement of the century. Doane found himself on his back shortly after the opening bell rang and things only got worse from there. In the 12:32 that the fight lasted, Doane was credited with landing a whopping 15 total strikes. Doane's 8-fight UFC career has been a unmitigated disaster. He is sporting a 3-5 record since debuting in early 2014 including a 1-4 record in his last five fights overall.

Doane will face Rani Yahya in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Orlando on Feb. 24, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Doane had lost four UFC bouts in a row and had likely been starting at release, but bounced back in a big way with a TKO victory over Kwan Ho Kwak back in June. He'll now take on a much grittier veteran in Yahya -- a submission artist with nine UFC victories under his belt. Though Doane has youth on his side, he'll presumably enter as the betting underdog against the Brazilian.
Knocks out Kwan Ho Kwak for first win since 2014

June 17, 2017
Doane defeated Kwan Ho Kwak via TKO (punches) at 4:09 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Kallang, Singapore.
ANALYSIS
It was Doane's first win since September 2014. Riding a four fight losing streak heading into Saturday, Doane connected with a huge knee and followed with a right hand that quickly turned out the lights for Kwak. Doane's upside is non-existent, but he likely saved his job with Saturday's win.
Predictably dominated by Mirsad Bektic at UFC 204

October 8, 2016
Doane lost to Mirsad Bektic via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:22 of Round 1 at UFC 204 on Saturday in Manchester, England.
ANALYSIS
Doane looked exactly how you expected a mediocre fighter would on less than a week's notice against one of the top prospects in the game - absolutely awful. He threw one huge overhand right that grazed Bektic's cheek in the opening seconds of the fight, but that was about it. Doane has now lost four-straight fights including back-to-back first-round submission setbacks. The only way he avoids getting released is if he negotiated one more fight into his deal in exchange for taking on an animal like Bektic on such short notice.
To face Mirsad Bektic on short notice
BantamweightUFC
October 5, 2016
Doane will face Mirsad Bektic at UFC 204 on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Doane is a loser of three straight in the UFC, and would have likely been facing his release if he hadn't accepted this bout on just five days' notice. He'll have his work cut out for him against the 25-year-old prospect, as oddsmakers currently list Doane as a +400 or greater underdog.
Suffers third straight defeat
BantamweightUFC
July 7, 2016
Doane was defeated by Pedro Munhoz via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:08 of round one at UFC Fight 90 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Doane emerged victorious in his first two fights with the UFC, but has now lost three straight bouts and could be facing his release. He didn't really threaten Munhoz much in this one, as Doane left himself open for the guillotine the first time the fight went to the mat, ultimately resulting in the early loss.
