The Crusher
Looks strong, but drops decision to Cub Swanson in Utah
FeatherweightUFC
August 7, 2016
Kawajiri lost to Cub Swanson via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
ANALYSIS
Despite the loss, it was a far better effort from Kawajiri than one could have reasonably expected. He landed three takedowns and racked up over a full round's worth of control time, but he did so little on the feet that it was impossible for him to steal the judge's decision. Kawajiri landed just 38 percent of his total strikes (51-132). The veteran has now lost two fights in a row, although the setbacks have come against top opponents in Swanson and Dennis Bermudez. The 38-year-old showed enough on Saturday to earn another bout with the company.

Set for fight against Cub Swanson on Saturday
FeatherweightUFC
August 5, 2016
Kawajiri (+275) is the underdog for his featherweight fight against Cub Swanson that will take place at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
ANALYSIS
The 38-year-old Kawajiri is 2-2 in his last four fights dating back to April 2014 and things don't figure to get much better for him against Swanson, although the Japanese veteran remains one of the more powerful featherweights around. He can outmuscle virtually anyone he faces, even at his advanced age, but he has trouble keeping up in virtually all other aspects of the sport. Although this bout will air on Fight Pass, it may be the most entertaining fight on the card. A Kawajiri victory would have to be regarded as a major upset - as the odds indicate.

Kawajiri will face Cub Swanson in a featherweight matchup at UFC Fight Night 92 in Salt Lake City on August 6.
ANALYSIS
Kawajiri owns a 3-2 record with the promotion, but has yet to earn a victory over a ranked featherweight opponent. He'll draw the No. 6 featherweight in Cub Swanson, but in a division loaded with depth, will likely need to put together a much longer winning streak before getting a high-profile fight.

Kawajiri lost to Dennis Bermudez via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Kawajiri does little other than attempt to grind out boring decisions with his wrestling and his struggles on the feet led to his demise in this one. Kawajiri lost the total strike battle by a count of 120-27, although this biggest concern was the fact that he allowed Bermudez to land four of his five takedown attempts. Kawajiri has had a long, productive career and virtually all of his defeats have come against quality competition, but he is now 37-years old and the days of him defeating better fighters have come to an end.

Kawajiri (+310) is a heavy underdog for his featherweight fight against Dennis Bermudez that will take place at UFC Fight Night on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Kawajiri is known for his boring, grinding style of fighting, but that figures to be the wrong game plan against a guy in Bermudez who is a terrific wrestler. Unfortunately for Kawajiri, the 37-year-old is going to be at a severe disadvantage if this fight turns into a kickboxing match. It's hard to see how he can match the speed of the younger Bermudez. Kawajiri doesn't seem like a particularly good value play despite his underdog status.

Kawajiri defeated Jason Knight via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale on Friday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Another boring Kawajiri fight, but another dominant victory. The bigger and stronger fighter, Kawajiri was able to plant Knight on his back with ease. In a fight that lasted 15 minutes, Kawajiri spent a ridiculous 13:14 in top position. No one is going to confuse Kawajiri with Diego Sanchez, but he has won eight of his last nine contests. The 35-year-old remains a fringe top-15 fighter in a deep featherweight division.
