Kennedy lost Kelvin Gastelum via TKO (punches) at 2:45 of Round 3 at UFC 206 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Outside of the first three minutes or so, Kennedy looked like a guy who hadn't fought in 805 days. He used his upper-body strength to force Gastelum up against the fence early in Round 1, but as soon as the fight returned to the center of the octagon, Kennedy had no chance. He was tuned up on the feet in every single striking exchange between the two men and he also appeared exhausted, which was shocking for a fighter who is known for his elite cardio. The question moving forward is -- was this poor performance the result of octagon rust after so much time away? Or are Kennedy's skills possibly slipping at age 37? It could truly be either scenario.

Faces Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 206
Kennedy will now face Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports.

Kennedy was originally scheduled to face former light heavyweight Rashad Evans, but problems with Evans' medicals scrapped bouts at both UFC 205 and UFC 206. Instead, Kennedy will take on Gastelum, a wrestler that was also pulled from UFC 205 after failing to make the welterweight limit of 170 pounds. The UFC effectively forced Gastelum to move up to middleweight (185 pounds) moving forward, and the 37-year-old Kennedy will be his first fight. Kennedy hasn't fought since a loss to Yoel Romero in December of 2014, so rust could very well be a factor. That being said, he'll hold a height and reach advantage over Gastelum, who is a bit undersized for the middleweight division.
