The Carp announced Monday that they reached agreement with Cron on a one-year, $1.1 million contract, Yahoo Sports Japan reports.
ANALYSIS
After being released by MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks in late October, Cron decided to make the jump to Japan. The 27-year-old didn't take long to find a landing spot, and he should have a chance to immediately emerge as a star in NPB. Though Cron struck out in 35.7 percent of his 98 career MLB plate appearances, the swing and miss in his game should be a lesser concern about NPB pitchers, who typically throw at lower velocities than their North American counterparts. The first baseman was consistently a high-end power hitter during his time in minor-league baseball, slugging 20-plus home runs at the High-A, Double-A or Triple-A level in every season from 2015 to 2019.
