Talking to Rick Ware Racing
Retired
January 17, 2019
When Wallace developed a heart issue that resulted in triple bypass surgery in April 2015, it left the veteran NASCAR driver with unfinished business in his racing career. Now, nearly four years later and fully healthy, the 59-year-old brother of NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace and Kenny Wallace hopes to finish some of that business in the 2019 season with Rick Ware Racing, NBC Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
RWR has two charters and can field both the No. 51 and No. 52 cars full-time this season. Ware has been talking to Wallace about taking the wheel of one of those rides, however, funding is coming up short. Wallace is seeking to put together some sponsorship that would allow him to race again in 2019. Right now the team only has funding for three races early in the schedule (Atlanta, California and Las Vegas).

Wallace made only 1 Cup start and 1 Xfinity start in 2015. He is a free agent driver in 2016.
Wallace tallied one Top-10 finish and a 12th-place finish in the final driver standings of 2012. He will come back for an impressive 24th year of racing in the Nationwide Series. Wallace returns to the seat of the No. 01 Chevrolet, and to basically the same team he had at the end of last year. He claimed 17 Top-20 finishes last year, so while Wallace wasn’t leading laps and picking up Top 10’s he was generally staying on the lead lap and racing competitively. We should be in for an eye-full of the same in 2013. Wallace has always been a steady performer on the larger ovals.
