Joins Arrow McLaren SP for Indy 500
Formula One
February 25, 2020
Alonso has teamed with Arrow McLaren SP in an attempt to participate in the Indianapolis 500 in May, Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After failing to qualify for the race last year, Alonso looks to make another run at the Indianapolis 500 in hopes of achieving motorsports' Triple Crown. He won the first two events in back-to-back fashion, with his Monaco Grand Prix wins coming in 2006 and 2007 while winning the 24 Hours Le Mans in 2018 and 2019. Alonso was in contention to win the Indy 500 in 2017 before an engine failure dashed his hopes with just 27 laps to go. He failed to qualify with McLaren in 2018 due to self-admitted poor preparation. Over the offseason, McLaren teamed up with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and became Arrow McLaren SP. With a win, Alonso would be propelled to racing immortality and join Graham Hill as the only men to ever capture the sport's Triple Crown.
