Lester is leaving NASCAR this year to return to his racing roots -- sportscars. Lester has joined Southard Motorsports of the Grand-Am Rolex Series to share the No. 3 Lexus Riley with fellow driver Shane Lewis, the Daytona Beach News Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
"I did not like watching the Craftsman Truck Series from the sideline after 15 races of 25," Lester said. "I really want to race for a championship. I want to race a whole year." Lester struggled last season in the CTS and never really was able to get any momentum on the track. He will take a break from NASCAR this season in order to race full-time in sportscars.

Nextel Cup

Craftsman Truck Series team owner Billy Ballew said that he purchased two Nextel Cup cars from Dale Earnhardt Inc. and plans to enter four races with Lester as the driver, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ballew, who fields a truck for Lester, said he would like to run at Indianapolis, Atlanta, Charlotte and Homestead, if he can secure funding.
