Lupton has left JGL racing and will not compete with the team during this weekend's Xfinity race at Michigan International Speedway, Jim Utter of Motorsport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In a statement, Lupton noted "Due to unfortunate circumstances, I will not be competing in this weekend's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Michigan International Speedway nor will I be returning to JGL Racing for the remainder of the 2018 season." The 24-year-old has 35 career series starts and four starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

Lupton is a free agent driver entering the 2022 season.
Lupton made just three starts for David Gilliland Racing in 2020. He drove the No. 17 Ford to one Top-10 and three Top-20 finishes in those efforts. This truck primarily belongs to Taylor Gray in the 2021 season, but there's a small possibility Lupton could make some spot starts in the ride once again.
Made 6 starts last season in the Gander Outdoors & RV Truck Series with some limited success for DGR-Crosley Motorsports. Lupton earned one Top-5 and three Top-10 finishes in those efforts. 2020 plans have not been announced.
Made 11 starts for JGL Racing in 2018 before the team closed prior to the Michigan race. That left Lupton without a ride for the remainder of the season and a free agent driver heading into 2019.
Lupton was signed to race for JGL in their No. 28 entry in the upcoming season. The team is not full-time, but they have a pretty good footprint. Lupton should start at least 21 of the 33 events, and possibly more as money and sponsorship permits. He made 14 starts last season in the Xfinity Series with two Top-15 and four Top-20 finishes. The new team situation is an improvement, and we should see an improvement in Lupton's numbers in the upcoming season. We wouldn't rule out the team shifting to full-time if early-season performance is good, and sponsorship can be found.
