Felipe Giaffone

Giaffone will replace Robbie Buhl at Indianapolis-based Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, starting with the Indianapolis 500, the Indianapolis Star. reports.

Giaffone is targeting the Sept. 7 race in Joliet, Ill. for his comeback after having surgery to repair a fractured his right leg and pelvis, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Giaffone suffered a broken right femur and fractured pelvis when he was involved in a two-car crash with rookie Dan Wheldon in the second turn on the 56th lap of the Kansas Indy 300 on Sunday.

Giaffone posted the fastest time of the day, 31.8988 seconds (225.714 m.p.h.), during afternoon testing at California Speedway in Fontana, California.
