Gomes set a new GT Daytona track record en route to taking the class pole position in the Via Italia Racing Ferrari 488 GT3. The Brazilian broke Daniel Serra's previous class qualifying record which was set last year, and it marks the third consecutive year that a Ferrari has been on the GTD class pole,

ANALYSIS
Gomes' best lap of 1:45.257 was .067 seconds faster than Ben Keating in the Mercedes-AMG Team Riley machine. That was good enough to earn the pole position in GTD and fetch the new track record. This will be Gomes' third start in the 24-hour classic. He hasn't raced at Daytona since 2015. The new Via Italia Racing team will make a big splash in this weekend's Rolex 24.
