Reed Sorenson

At the time of this writing it is unclear which team Sorenson will race for this season. Rick Ware Racing plans to field four full-time teams in 2021, and Sorenson will likely be the pilot for one of those rides. The 34-year-old veteran spent last season racing a half-time schedule of 17 starts with Spire Motorsports. So this season could be his first full or near-full schedule in quite some time. Sorenson has 346 starts of Cup Series experience and that is valuable to a smaller race team. However, the level of performance is clearly what's lacking to consider use in fantasy racing leagues. Sorenson's last four seasons have yielded no Top-10 finishes and average finishes of 32.1, 32.6, 32.7 and last season's 33.4. In spite of RWR's growth and improvement, the outlook is still somewhat pessimistic.

At the time of this writing it is unclear what Sorenson's plans are for the upcoming season. He spent much of last year racing with Premium Motorsports and rounded out the year racing with Spire Motorsports. The two teams have a partnership, so it wasn't surprising to see the ride-share of Sorenson. At this point it's unclear what the No. 27 and No. 77 teams have planned for 2020, but it would be reasonable to expect Sorenson will be involved in one or the other to a major degree. He grabbed just two Top-25 finishes last season racing a majority of the schedule, but wound up in the garage area with DNF's far more often (nine times). Sorenson's 329 starts of Cup Series action are a nice factor of reliability, but these small race teams can only give him subpar cars at this point in their existence.

Sorenson made 14 starts last season for Premium Motorsports and earned just two Top-30 finishes. His plans and schedule for 2019 have not been announced, and he could return in a similar capacity for Premium Motorsports.

The 13-season veteran will likely return in the upcoming season. Although his contract status has not been announced at the time of this writing, we would suspect he’ll be back with the Premium Motorsports No. 15 team that he spent much of last season racing. Sorenson logged 27 starts between the team’s No. 15 and No. 55 entries. He nabbed only two Top-25 finishes as opposed to five DNF’s in those starts. That level of performance rules out much, if any fantasy racing expectations for this driver and team.

The pieces of the puzzle are still falling into place as of the end of December 2016, but it looks like Sorenson could be back at Premium Motorsports in the No. 55 Toyota. If so, he would once again be paired with crew chief Pat Tryson as the team attempts to race the full schedule and improve on last season's performance. Sorenson only raced in 28 events last season, but with no Top-10 finishes and only one Top-25 finish. Premium Motorsports wants to grow and they likely see Sorenson and his 262-career starts at the avenue to do so. The reality is that this under-equipped and under-funded team needs a lot of help if they hope to climb the ladder in NASCAR's top division.

No 2016 plans have been announced.

Sorenson signed a contract to race with TMG in early February 2013. He has a full season ahead in the team's Camaro. Sorenson should take this small team higher in the standings than they have ever been.
