Patterson (undisclosed) featured 67 minutes in Sunday's pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano, confirming he is back fit for Sunderland.

Patterson was close to making his return and did so in Sunday's pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano. The goalie suffered a bad knock and struggled to make his return but is now back fit for Sunderland to start the season. That said, it is highly expected that he will get a backup role between the posts this season after Sunderland signed Robin Roefs during the transfer window.
