Targett continues to play a large role in pre-season, playing the full 90 at left wing-back during Friday's friendly. The defender was hampered by injury and hardly appeared throughout the 2024/25 campaign, but could play a larger role if he can stay fit. Newcastle are hoping to compete in four competition, which should open the door for Targett to play a rotational role, especially in domestic cup competitions.
