Schurrle announced his retirement from the sport Friday via an interview done with German outlet Spiegel.

Schurrle, 29, made a name for himself as a teenager in Bundesliga which led to a two-season stint with Chelsea beginning 2013 in which he scored 11 goals in 44 appearances. After struggling in the Premier League, he tried to return to Bundesliga, but outside of one season at Wolfsburg, he couldn't regain his form. He closed his career spending loans away from Borussia Dortmund at Fulham and Spartak Moscow. He'll maybe be most known for being a high-level signing at Chelsea and for scoring three goals for title winners Germany in the 2014 World Cup.
