Spurs have agreed on a personal contract with South African captain Mabizela and have worked out an arrangement with his former club on a transfer fee. The only hurdle now will be to secure a work permit for the 22-year old.

Mabizela has already impressed in exhibition contests this summer, enough so that Manager Glenn Hoddle is pegging him to start once the permit issue is sorted out. A talented defender who is described as 'a born leader', his size, abilities, and relative youth make Mabizela a shrewd acquisition by Tottenham.
