Monreal announced his retirement via an Instagram post from his agents at Global Ases on Tuesday.

Monreal ends a 16-year senior career, most prominently spent with Arsenal (251 appearances in all competitions from 2013-19) but he also made 227 appearances in La Liga with Osasuna, Malaga and Real Sociedad. The left-back won three FA Cups (2014, '15 and '17), one Copa del Rey (2020) and earned 22 caps with the Spanish National Team, but he missed the entire 2021/22 season with a knee injury and at 36 years old has now decided it's time to retire.
