Confirms early March return
Knee
February 2, 2021
Federer confirmed Tuesday that he intends to make his return to competitive tennis at the ATP 250 event in Doha, which runs from March 8 to March 13, SRF Sport reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Federer elected to skip the Australian Open later this month, he wasn't expected to remain sidelined deep into the 2021 season while he nears the one-year mark in his recovery from two right knee operations. According to the report, Federer plans to ease his way into the season, as he's expected to play one unspecified hardcourt event and at least a couple clay-court events before turning his focus to Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open. The 20-time grand slam champion's most recent ATP Tour appearance came in January 2020, when he lost to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of that year's Australian Open.
