Roger Federer
Injury Knee
Est. Return 1/4/2021
Sidelined for remainder of season
June 10, 2020
Federer announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he will miss the remainder of the 2020 season after experiencing a setback a few weeks ago in his recovery from the arthroscopic surgery for his right knee that he required in February.
At the time he had the procedure, Federer had already ruled himself out through the French Open, which has since been postponed from late May until September due to the coronavirus pandemic. After the setback resulted in the 38-year-old going under the knife for another procedure, he's now elected to take 2020 off entirely with the goal of returning to full health ahead of the 2021 season. The nearly year-long break in competitive action will be longest layoff of Federer's career, with his previous longest hiatus coming in 2016, when he took off the latter half of the season to work back from a troublesome left knee injury.
