Anderson announced Tuesday via his personal Twitter account that he has retired from professional tennis.

The 35-year-old Anderson ends his 20-year professional career as one of the greatest South African tennis players of all time. He made Grand Slams finals appearances at the US Open in 2017 and at Wimbledon in 2018 and accrued seven titles during his career. He achieved his highest ranking in July 2018, when he rose to No. 5 worldwide shortly after falling to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon finals that year.
