Monica Puig

31-Year-Old
Announces retirement
Shoulder
June 13, 2022
Puig (shoulder) announced Monday on Instagram that she has decided to retire from the sport.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old has played just two matches since September of 2020 while trying to recover from serious elbow and shoulder issues. Her latest setback happened just a month ago, so it seems that another round of rehab isn't worth the hassle at this later stage in her career. She'll most notably be remembered for unexpectedly winning gold for Puerto Rico at the 2016 Rio Olympics, which is even more impressive when knowing that she never ranked higher than No. 27 throughout her career.
