2026 Fantasy Outlook
Thornton spent two years with the Liberty and helped the franchise capture the 2024 WNBA title before being selected by the Valkyries during the WNBA Expansion Draft. The move to Golden State paid off for her, as she was thrust into a starting role, and through 20 games, she averaged 14.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals (all career highs) and 1.4 assists over 29.9 minutes, en route to her first All-Star nod. However, her campaign was cut short due to a knee injury that was severe enough for her to require surgery. She signed a one-year deal to remain with the Valkyries during the offseason, and she said at the start of training camp that she expects to be ready to play in time for the start of the 2026 campaign. Held scoreless versus Chicago
Thornton went scoreless (0-11 FG, 0-3 3Pt) with six rebounds and one block over 30 minutes in Wednesday's 69-63 loss to Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Thornton played well in Golden State's first two contests of the season. However, the 23-year-old was unable to connect on any of her attempts from the floor Wednesday. From a statistical standpoint, Thornton is coming off a quality season, averaging a career-best 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.2 blocks across 30.1 minutes per game in 22 regular-season appearances. Thornton will presumably have plenty of opportunities to get back on track after Wednesday's showing.

After helping the Liberty win their first championship, Thornton was selected by the Valkyries during the WNBA Expansion Draft this offseason. Thornton has played for three teams (Washington, Dallas and New York) across nine WNBA seasons. She averaged 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per game with the Liberty over the past two seasons, a significant decline compared to the 8.2 points and 4.9 rebounds in 26.4 minutes per game she averaged across six seasons in Dallas. Golden State's rotation is likely to ebb and flow throughout the season. Still, Thornton has a much clearer path to consistent minutes and usage with her new team than she did when competing for playing time with Breanna Stewart, Leonie Fiebich and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton.
