Explain to me how Alfonso Soriano can't at least try to be a good soldier and shag some fly balls in the outfield. I understand he's going to be at 2B for the WBC, but it can't hurt to gain some experience in the OF. I mean, he just won the lottery at $10 million per year! Is he upset that he actually "lost" his arb case? Gimme a break. We all know the odds of incumbent second baseman Jose Vidro staying healthy for a full year is as likely as George Bush inviting the Cubans to the White House if they win the WBC. Get in the outfield and wait for Vidro to go on the DL. There has to be semblance of power between the player and the manager. Thank goodness Frank Robinson is the man in charge. I expect to see Alfa-Alfa in the OF in the not-too-distant future - if he's still in a Nats' uniform.

Comments....
The whole thing seems pretty clear to me... with his numbers, as a second baseman... he's a superstar -- and paid accordingly.
As a left fielder, he's good, but not great.
Given that, I'd actually be sort of surprised if we don't see more guys insist on playing out of position in the future.

The real question is why make this deal in the first place? AT RFK, you need pitching and defense, not a poor defender for 10 mil with inflated stats from the Yanks and Arlington...
and you already have a great 2B? Injury prone, yes, but then you get a young backup, not Soriano...
