The Runnin' Rays

The Devil Rays went 4-for-4 in steal attempts in their preseason opener against Toronto on Thursday. The steals came from Joey Gathright, Damon Hollins, Darnell McDonald and Russell Branyan. Yes, you read that right; Branyan, with just seven steals in 536 career MLB games. Looks as if Joe Maddon will have the Rays running this season.

Comments....

What about Gomes this year? I know he does not run but will he be in the lineup enough to feast on more pitching? I'm still kind of leery to get him unless it is a lot later than when he usually gets picked.

No fear, Gomes will play nearly every day; Maddon loves the kid. It will be interesting to see what position Gomes plays, however, especially if and when Delmon Young comes up in mid-season. Gomes will start the year at RF but likely would move when Young reaches the bigs. That might makes Gomes the DH for the rest of the year, a move easier to forsee if Aubrey Huff either (a) really makes it as a 3B this spring or (b) is traded by midseason.
