Quick Question

If nothing is wrong with Mark Prior, why is he still just throwing simulated games? Why are the Cubs just *hoping* he'll pitch in three spring training games. Something's fishy here.

Very fishy. The Chicago media seems very skeptical. Even when they report that he's fine, you just don't think they believe it.

Prior struck out 17 batters in his last 11 innings of 2005. He clearly was healthy in September. Then he has a respiratory illness in December (doesn't seem like that should matter), and the Cubs use that to justify bringing him along slowly. Then there's a rumor out of camp that he has shoulder issues, which the Cubs deny. But they won't commit to him being in the rotation the first time through. I'd bet anything that he felt something in his shoulder in February, and the Cubs slowed him way down and are just hoping it goes away. It might, and he could be fine, but one little twinge or setback, and he could be out indefinitely.

This is typical Cubs propaganda to sell tickets and to take pressure off the front office to spend money in the off season to fill holes. My guess is that they knew that they would be without both Prior and Wood to start the season. Thank goodness for the Sox.....
