Hazard assisted on Dries Mertens' 80th minute goal that put Belgium up for good in their 2-1 win over Algeria in their opening match of the World Cup on Tuesday.

The Belgians trailed 1-0 after 24 minutes and didn't equalize until Marouane Fellaini's header in the 70th minute. Hazard did not attempt a single shot all game, but his assist was a perfect pass to Mertens, who banged home a rocket for the win.

Hazard returned from his calf injury to start and play all 90 minutes of Tuesday's 1-3 Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid.

Hazard was incredibly active during the match and did not appear to be hampered by his calf injury at all. However, after missing most of April and then going the distance Wednesday, it wouldn't be surprising if he had a lesser role Sunday against Norwich City.

Hazard (calf) has been deemed fit ahead of Wednesday's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, the club's official web site reports.

Manager Jose Mourinho did not say Tuesday whether Hazard would start the match, but it's very encouraging that he will at least be available. If he can make it through unscathed, Hazard has a decent chance to feature during Sunday's Premier League match against Norwich City.

Hazard, who has not played since April 8 due to a calf injury, participated in training Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, ESPN FC reports.

It's unclear how much work Hazard did, although it would be a huge boost if he's able to return for Wednesday's second leg at Stamford Bridge. Even if he is able to play, it would be surprising to see him start Sunday's Premier League match against Norwich City given the quick turnaround.

Hazard, who is currently out with a calf injury, won the PFA Young Player of the Year Award on Sunday, the Daily Mail reports.

Hazard has been excellent this season for Chelsea, scoring 14 goals and assisting on seven others, both of which put him in the top-10 in England in those categories. If he is unable to play Tuesday against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, he may be able to return for next weekend's home match against Norwich City.

Hazard (calf) is unavailable for Tuesday's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

Manager Jose Mourinho was never very optimistic that Hazard would be ready, so it's not overly surprising that he was held out. The bigger test will be this weekend against Liverpool, a match that could very well decide the Premier League title.
