BIG3 Basketball Betting: Best Bets for Week 8

BIG3 Basketball returns for its eighth season with plenty of new notable names and a few twists to the traditional format that could make it the league's best season yet.

For the first time in BIG3 history, teams are now tied into specific cities. Plenty of last year's notable names return, while new incoming stars like Dwight Howard, Montrezl Harrell and Will Barton enhance an already impressive talent pool that also includes former NBA luminaries such as Michael Beasley, Joe Johnson, Greg Monroe and Paul Millsap, among others.

This season, RotoWire will once again have quick-hit betting picks for all four clashes each week using DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook odds, continuing with Saturday's four-game slate at Toyota Center in Houston.

2025 BIG3 Betting Record: 14-10

Detroit Amps vs. Boston Ball Hogs Best Bets (Saturday, August 2, 1:00 p.m. ET)

The Amps were able to put together another impressive performance sans Joe Johnson in Week 7, besting the Riot by a 50-46 score in what was considered an upset. Jeremy Pargo continued to take on a bulk of the offensive responsibility with 23 points, while Darnell Jackson had a near double-double of 13 points and nine rebounds. Both players drained a trio of threes apiece and Cam Smith was an effective third wheel with eight points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Ball Hogs fell to 3-3 with a lackluster 51-43 showing against the Triplets, with Boston getting outscored by a concerning 29-16 margin in the second half. When Jonathon Simmons isn't turning in an elite performance it's difficult for Boston to score enough points, and that was the case in Week 7. Simmons mustered just 11 points, and although DeShawn Stephens also posted a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double, his point total was a team-high figure.

There's no definitive word on whether Johnson will be back this week, but Detroit has gotten accustomed to playing well without him thanks to its deep roster. As a result, I'm in the camp of an outright win for the Amps in what should be a highly competitive game.

Dallas Power at Houston Rig Hands (Saturday, August 2, 2:00 p.m. ET)

The Power continued its ascension in Week 7, notching a 50-45 win over Trilogy that pushed Dallas' record to 4-2. Nancy Lieberman's squad is second in the league in points (292) and has a +21-point differential, and its deep roster allows them to be missing a trusted veteran like Paul Millsap and still come out victorious. Greg Monroe led the way versus DMV with a massive 25-point, 17-rebound double-double, while Glen Rice Jr. turned in a 16-point, 13-rebound tally in his own right. T.J. Cline was the only other active player in the victory and was effective with nine points, eight rebounds and two assists.

The Rig Hands, in contrast, continued their spiral with a 50-42 thumping at the hands of a 305 team missing reigning MVP Michael Beasley in Week 7. Calvin Murphy's crew is 1-5 and has allowed a co-BIG3-high 298 points while scoring a league-low 252. Corey Brewer and Garlon Green continue to be the only reliable week-to-week components of Houston's squad, and the top-heavy nature of the team's production helps explain why they've won just one game.

Houston is at home this week, so if there was ever a game where the Rig Hands were going to put up a respectable showing, it would presumably be this week. I still think the Power gets the victory, but the Over on the very low total is one I'm willing to back.

BIG3 Picks for Power at Rig Hands

  • Over 92.5 points (-112 on FanDuel Sportsbook)

DMV Trilogy vs. L.A. Riot (Saturday, August 2, 3:00 p.m. ET)

Trilogy did take another close loss in Week 7 by falling to the Power, 50-45, but Stephen Jackson's squad continues to make opponents work for every win. DMV, like the Rig Hands, is only 1-5, but their point differential is a modest -17, underscoring how competitive they typically are. Earl Clark, Will Barton, Franklin Session, Isaiah Austin and Mike Scott are quite the quintet, as they're all starting-caliber players.

The Riot have bigger names overall, yet Los Angeles has been plagued by underachievement on several occasions this season. Dwight Howard and Jordan Crawford are still putting up strong numbers week to week – they combined for 38 of the Riot's 46 points in Week 7 – but Wesley Johnson was a letdown with zero points alongside four rebounds, one assist and one block. L.A. is just 3-3 despite a +9 point differential and has had trouble clicking on all cylinders consistently.

This is a matchup between teams that have seemingly had contrasting mindsets at times. While Trilogy typically plays up to the level of competition, the Riot frequently plays down, so I like the former to keep any loss to four points or less.

BIG3 Picks for Trilogy vs. Riot

  • Trilogy +4.5 (-110 on FanDuel Sportsbook)

Chicago Triplets vs. Miami 305 Best Bets (Saturday, August 2, 4:00 p.m. ET)

The Triplets moved to 4-2 with a convincing 51-43 victory over the Ball Hogs in Week 7, one that saw Montrezl Harrell lead the way with a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double that also includes five assists. Brandon Moss, who was obtained via trade earlier in the season, totaled 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and one block, while Nasir Core delivered 12 points, seven boards and six assists. Chicago is now 4-2 with a +11 point differential and has the talent to play competitively against any team.

That will be put to the test against 305, as Miami is also 4-2 and has a +30 point differential. As mentioned earlier, Michael Cooper's squad was able to get a victory in Week 7 despite being without Beasley, but it's also worth keeping in mind the competition – the Rig Hands – wasn't exactly of a high caliber. Nevertheless, Miami has scored a league-high 296 points and should have Beasley back this week.

This is one of those games where there's no need to overthink things much – there's plenty of offensive firepower here, certainly more than enough for the Over to have a solid chance of hitting since this could well turn to to be a 50-48 type of affair.
