Closer Watch
White Sox -- With closer Addison Reed getting the day off Saturday, White Sox manager Robin Ventura picked Matt Thornton to come in with four outs left in the game and the team sitting on a two-run lead. Thornton converted the save for his second of the year and the 21st of his career. Don't expect Thornton to get many more saves this season, but this move does show what the picking order in the bullpen is if anything happens to Reed.
Tigers -- Jose Valverde proved once again that closers aren't always as effective when there isn't a save on the line. Valverde started the ninth inning against the Royals on Saturday with a four-run lead, and while Detroit left the game with a win, they left with a little less confidence in their closer after he gave up three runs off two hits and two walks. This outing was surely a rough one for any owner of Valverde as it saw his ERA rise almost a full point from 3.44 to 4.11. On the bright side, Valverde had been impressive in his six appearances prior to Saturday, giving up a combined two hits, with no walks or runs allowed.

Recommended Pickup
Justin Ruggiano, OF, MIA -- During his ten-game hitting streak, Ruggiano has collected four home runs, 11 RBI and three stolen bases while raising his batting average for the season to an impressive .410. Even though these past ten games may be a mirage based on the fact that Ruggiano had played in less than 130 MLB games since debuting with Tampa Bay in 2007, Miami's newly-found offensive spark might be a nice gamble for the fantasy owner willing to take a risk. For owners more inclined to gamble, there's not much to lose by having a hot hitter -- even one with a short history of production -- in their lineup.
Other Recent Recommendations: Tyler Colvin, Carlos Peguero, Brett Wallace, Yasmani Grandal and Salvador Perez
