Ronny Mauricio
17-Year-Old ShortstopSS
New York Mets  Rookie
2019 Fantasy Outlook
Still almost all projection at this point, Mauricio did as well as could have been expected (101 wRC+) as the third-youngest hitter in the GCL before a late-season promotion to the Appy League. Signed out of the Dominican Republic for $2.1 million on July 2, 2017, Mauricio is a wiry 6-foot-4, 175-pound shortstop who won’t turn 18 until April. It doesn’t take a well-trained scout to look at Mauricio, knowing his age and pedigree, and envision what he could grow into in three or four years. He has big power potential, and his 16.2 K% hints at preternatural bat-to-ball ability for a player his size. Mauricio’s arm should keep him on the left side of the infield, even if he outgrows shortstop. He is a solid runner now, but those rostering him in dynasty leagues should be banking on him slowing down and eventually becoming a major contributor in the four non-speed rotisserie categories. His ETA is 2022. Read Past Outlooks
Thriving in GCL
SSNew York Mets  R
August 9, 2018
Mauricio is hitting .302/.330/.475 with three home runs, one steal and a 28:9 K:BB in 176 plate appearances in the Gulf Coast League.
Mauricio, who turned 17 in April, has a dream frame (6-foot-3, 166 pounds) for a player his age, as he should be able to fill out without losing his explosiveness or athleticism. He has a very fluid swing and has shown an innate ability to make contact while also doing plenty of damage (.173 ISO). Mauricio makes for an excellent lottery ticket in dynasty leagues.
