2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bubic spent the first three months of the 2024 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in April of 2023. The bulk of his time was with Triple-A Omaha where he compiled 27.1 innings. Toward the end of the assignment, Bubic transitioned for the relief role awaiting him in the majors. The lefty thrived out of the bullpen, working his way into leverage innings where he collected seven holds and a save. His 32.2 percent strikeout rate was by far his career best. His four-seam velocity went up a tick. He stopped throwing his curve while trading some change-ups for sliders. Despite, or perhaps because of, his success, the Royals are moving him back to the rotation. Aside from the obvious workload concerns (he threw only 68 total innings last season), it's unclear how much of his strikeout gains Bubic can maintain as a starter and if he'll maintain the same pitch mix or reintroduce his curve. The Royals' recent success with pitching warrants taking a chance Bubic can be a fantasy streamer. Read Past Outlooks

Saddled with sixth loss
Bubic (6-6) suffered the loss in Sunday's game against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over five innings with five strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
The Kansas City southpaw contained the star-studded Los Angeles lineup in this 90-pitch performance. Bubic limited the Dodgers to just one extra-base hit -- an Enrique Hernandez two-run blast in the second inning. He also crossed the 100-strikeout milestone for the third time in his career, achieving the feat for the first time since 2022. The 27-year-old left-hander appears bound for his first All-Star appearance, as he's pitched to an impressive 2.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 101:29 K:BB across 96 total frames. Bubic is currently slated to make his next start at Arizona next weekend.

Strikeouts may be lower than usual, but there are still a number of pitchers more than capable of doing well this week.

Ryan Pohle takes a deeper look into team stacks and pitchers for Tuesday's MLB slate, including Milwaukee's Freddy Peralta in a matchup against the Pirates.

Tuesday's top MLB DFS options on DraftKings are top-heavy when it comes to pitching, but Garrett Crochet should be worth every penny as the Boston Red Sox take on the Los Angeles Angels.

Coming off a career high 27 starts in 2022, Bubic made just three starts with the Royals in 2023, compiling a 3.94 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and striking out a batter-per-inning before injury struck. The left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in late April making him unlikely to return in any capacity until the All-Star break. A return to the rotation has been muddied by the signings of Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha, but Bubic did agree to a one-year, $2.35 million contract in December meaning he's in the Royals' plans. A wait and see approach is probably best for fantasy managers in 2024.

Possible trade piece
The Royals would consider trading Bubic for offensive help, Will Sammon and Katie Woo of The Athletic report.
ANALYSIS
Bubic thrived as a full-time reliever with the Royals in 2024 in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, posting a 2.67 ERA and 39:5 K:BB over 30.1 regular-season innings. Whether an interested team would choose to keep him in the bullpen or move him back to the rotation, where he has plenty of experience, is unclear. Bubic is under team control through the 2026 season.
