2019 Fantasy Outlook
Martini joined the Athletics as an unheralded 27-year-old on a minor-league contract last offseason. Following a hot start at Triple-A Nashville, the outfielder went on to win a role on the strong side of a platoon in the big leagues over the summer, hitting an impressive .296/.397/.414 in 179 plate appearances (only 11 of those were against southpaws). He may fill a similar role at the start of this season, though there are reasons to be skeptical of his ability to repeat his performance. His line was propped up by a .379 BABIP, and his expected batting average according to Statcast was a mediocre .260. His batting average will have to remain high for him to be a fantasy asset, as he doesn't do much else. He's never hit more than eight homers in a season throughout his professional career and has never stolen more than 11 bases. Read Past Outlooks

Expected to face pitching soon
OFOakland Athletics
Knee
April 22, 2019
Martini (knee) is expected to face live pitching within the next week or two, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Martini resumed baseball activities about a week ago and has started a full run of progression, but he's apparently not going to be ready to resume playing in games until May. Because he was shut down for all of spring training due to the sprained right knee, Martini will require several rehab games before the Athletics activate him from the 10-day injured list. The 28-year-old isn't certain to have a spot on the active roster waiting for him once he's reinstated.
