Poteet has spent part of each of the past three seasons in the majors, with last year's 24.1 inning stint with the Yankees being better than his previous visits with the Marlins. That said, his ERA estimators were more than double his actual 2.22 mark, so be wary of a mid-career breakout. The Cubs must have seen something as they acquired Poteet as part of the Cody Bellinger salary dump. The 30-year-old right-hander is best suited to work as a swingman, unless he can figure out how to reverse his trend of a falling strikeout rate. At best, Poteet is a pitch and ditch candidate for a spot start with the wind blowing in at Wrigley Field. Yeah, not exactly a glowing endorsement.
