2023 Fantasy Outlook
Guthrie reached the majors for the first time last year at age 26. He received 28 plate appearances down the stretch, homering once and stealing one base while posting a .976 OPS. Over a larger stretch of 92 games at the Triple-A level, Guthrie homered 10 times, stole 21 bases and slashed .302/.363/.476. While that performance was encouraging, with his speed in particular hinting at a potentially fantasy-relevant future, it's generally unwise to get too excited about strong performances from 26-year-olds in the minors. That's particularly true in Guthrie's case, as he was just a .247/.300/.367 hitter across his previous four minor-league seasons. Between his defensive versatility (he primarily played center field in the minors last year but also started at both middle-infield spots) and his speed, he has the chance to push for a bench role, but it would take a second breakout for him to become much more than that. Returns to bench
Guthrie is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Guthrie picked up starts in center field each of the last three games while Brandon Marsh battled shoulder inflammation, going 2-for-8 with a double across those contests. With Marsh back in the lineup Wednesday, however, Guthrie will likely see scant playing time moving forward.
