2025 Fantasy Outlook
Moreta changed his pitch mix upon arriving to the Pirates in 2023, making his slider his primary offering. The results were positive, as he posted a strong 31.8 K% and 21.8 K-BB% while earning a 3.26 SIERA. Moreta wasn't used often in high-leverage spots, though it appeared he could be trending in that direction. Unfortunately, he required elbow surgery in spring training of 2024 and won't be back on the mound until at least the middle of 2025. Even if he returns in strong form, he likely won't have enough time to earn his way into possible save or hold chances. 2024 Fantasy Outlook
Moreta came to Pittsburgh via trade prior to last season and made their Opening Day bullpen. The 27-year-old righty impressed during the month of May, striking out 20 with only six baserunners allowed over 13.1 scoreless innings. The Dominican native was inconsistent throughout the summer until a back injury surfaced in early August. He only missed a few weeks of action, but was dispatched to the minors for a month before a recall for the final week of the season. Moreta finished with an impressive 3.72 ERA (2.92 FIP), 1.09 WHIP and 31.8 percent strikeout rate over a career-high 58 innings, but he did not receive many high-leverage opportunities. 2024 may afford him more chances to prove himself in the late innings, but he's likely to fill a middle relief role to start the year.
