2025 Fantasy Outlook
It is unfortunate, but the memory of Kiner-Falefa's questionable baserunning in the 9th inning of Games Seven in the World Series is going to linger for some time. From him not getting a better secondary lead to sliding into home on a force play is a play Toronto fans have likely rewound in their head multiple times this winter. The utility infielder was in his first year of a two-year deal with Toronto, but it may be best for both parties to find the infielder a fresh start in a new home far away from the Rogers Centre. That said, this is also a player who has never hit as many as nine homers in a season and last stole 20+ bases in 2022. He is empty average with some speed to contribute in mono leagues along with multi-position eligibility, but otherwise offers little to fantasy managers. He could be a handy reserve option with the positional flexibility. Read Past Outlooks

Kiner-Falefa's time in New York finally came to an end after a two-year run which saw him lose his starting job while he also did everything but pitch and catch on the field. The disappointing thing for fantasy managers is that IKF was not able to take full advantage of the new stolen base market after a two-year run which saw him succeed in 42 of his 51 stolen base attempts. Power was never in the picture and living in the bottom of the lineup was always the plan, but even the Yankees could no longer tolerate the lack of production from Kiner-Falefa as he struggled to hit in 2023. The six percentage point jump in his strikeout rate was uncharacteristic for him and the impact of that is seen in his batting average. He lacks the power that fantasy managers want to see from a 3B/OF eligible player but we also expect IKF to pick up another position or two in-season. It would not surprise us if he has a bounceback season of sorts away from the pressures of The Bronx.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
At least two teams interested
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Yankees and Giants have shown interest in acquiring Kiner-Falefa from the Pirates.
Analysis
Kiner-Falefa is working as Pittsburgh's primary shortstop this season and has a .274/.318/.339 slash line with one homer and 12 steals in 83 games. The 30-year-old's main appeal for contending teams is as a super-utility player, so he would likely see his playing time take a hit if traded elsewhere, which would hurt his already limited fantasy upside.
