Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Between Josh Jung's wrist problems and Corey Seager getting nicked up, Smith finished third on the Rangers with nearly 600 plate appearances last season. He wound up winning the American League's Silver Slugger award at the utility spot, although the vast majority of Smith's production came in the first half when he collected an .861 OPS while slugging 10 of his 13 home runs. He had just a .565 OPS after the All-Star break, and Smith's .304 xwOBA versus his actual .323 wOBA suggests there was some good fortune involved. Smith should fill a super utility role again in 2025, although it's unlikely he'll play as much as he did in 2024. He'll be eligible at shortstop and third base out of the gate and could pick up additional eligibility, which is useful in deeper formats.ULL Read Past Outlooks

Returns to starting nine
Smith (hamstring) is batting leadoff and playing DH on Friday against Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Smith was held out of the lineup for three consecutive games due to left hamstring soreness, but he's been cleared to DH on Friday. The Rangers could look to ease Smith back into work in the field. He logged a hit in seven straight games before sustaining the injury, going 13-for-31 (.419) with two homers during that stretch.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
In 2023, Smith reprised the utility role he held the previous season, settling in at third base, shortstop and the never-quite-settled left field spot at various times. The infield positions are locked in by Corey Seager and Josh Jung, while left field now belongs to Evan Carter. Designated hitter is open, but Smith's competent minor-league bat has yet to translate over 485 plate appearances in the show (.191 average, .592 OPS). The lefty batter didn't indicate much against any pitch type (.191 against fastballs, .176 against curve/breaking balls) or as a potential platoon mate (.623 OPS against right-handers). There isn't a path to regular at-bats for Smith, whose value lies in position versatility.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Strong fit for Brewers?
Smith could be a trade target for the Brewers ahead of the deadline, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
It's uncertain if Milwaukee will be aggressive in the trade market, but the team could certainly use an offensive upgrade on the left side of their infield. Smith is hitting .288 with an .800 OPS across 245 plate appearances this season, so he'd certainly be an upgrade at the hot corner for the Brewers.
