Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Having pitched for six different teams in the last four years, Lorenzen is approaching journeyman status. A first-time All-Star in 2023, he continued to pitch well between Texas and Kansas City last season around stints on the injured list due to neck and hamstring problems. He re-signed with the Royals for 2025 and should begin the season at the back end of the rotation. Lorenzen flipped a switch down the stretch, posting a 1.57 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in seven appearances (six starts) with the Royals following a deadline trade. The former two-way player has re-established himself as a capable MLB starter over the past few years after the Reds moved him to the bullpen early in his tenure with the club. Rarely do we see 33-year-olds reach new heights, especially ones with such modest strikeout and walk rates, but it's not completely out of the question with Lorenzen. Read Past Outlooks

Takes loss Tuesday
Lorenzen (3-5) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Lorenzen gave up two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth, which ended up being enough to stick him with his second loss in a row. This is the third time he's failed to complete five innings this season -- he exited at 97 pitches (64 strikes) in a somewhat inefficient outing. The right-hander is now at a 3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 50:16 K:BB over 57.1 innings across 10 starts. Lorenzen's next start is projected to be at home versus the Reds.

The right-hander signed with Detroit for 2023 and pitched to a 3.58 ERA and 19.9 percent strikeout rate over 105.2 innings before being shipped to Philadelphia. Lorenzen was electric in his first two starts for the Phillies and threw a no-hitter, but he had a 9.23 ERA in his next six outings and finished the campaign out of the rotation. His overall 4.18 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 153 innings for the season is solid, but the late collapse is difficult to ignore, especially since a 4.55 xERA and 4.68 xFIP indicate he may have deserved some worse results. Lorenzen remains a solid back-end starter and should be able to grab a rotation spot somewhere in 2024, but his low strikeout numbers leave limited upside for fantasy managers.

Reaches service-time milestone
Lorenzen reached 10 years of service time in the major leagues Tuesday, reports Anne Rogers of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
It's a feat that's been accomplished by just 10 percent of all major-league players, and the milestone brings the benefit of a pension for any fully vested player. Lorenzen recorded the achievement in strong form as he delivered a quality start Monday against the Twins, and he has a 3.98 ERA across 370 games in his big-league career.
